Cessnock is a city area that makes up the heart of the Hunter Valley wine area. In contrast to the rural areas surrounding it, most of Cessnock’s property opportunities are suburban with smaller blocks and family sized homes.

Dungog is a country area in the region bordered in the north by the Barrington Tops plateau, part of the Great Dividing Range. It is made up of both small properties in its township areas and large agricultural acreage and farms.

Built on the banks of the Hunter River, 30 minutes from the wine country, Maitland offers more township and suburban property opportunities in the Hunter. It is one of the oldest regional centres which can be seen in much of its heritage and historic architecture.

Muswellbrook is in the North of the Hunter and houses much of the industry for coal mining and horse breeding. It is made up of many township areas abundant in smaller blocks and family sized homes, and also has many rural areas with farms and acreage.

In contrast to much of the Hunter country side, Port Stephens is a harbour that sits on the coast. It is one of the region’s popular tourist destinations and is made up mostly of towns and suburbs.

The Upper Hunter shire is the largest horse-rearing region in Australia and is made up of predominantly rural areas. There are townships nestled amongst the large properties, but this is mostly a rural community area.
